Voodoo heads

In this project, I aimed to sculpt a tsantsa in 3D, which is a traditional shrunken head from some indigenous peoples of the Amazon. The software used for sculpting it was Nomad Sculpt.

Tsantsas are a significant cultural element for various indigenous communities, particularly in Ecuador and Peru. These shrunken heads are made from the heads of enemies killed in battle and undergo a process of mummification and reduction that can last several days. This ritual serves not only an aesthetic purpose but is also rich in symbolism: it is believed that by preserving and shrinking the enemy's head, one captures their power and ensures victory in future conflicts. Thus, tsantsas represent both a trophy of war and a spiritual connection to the beliefs and traditions of these peoples.

In my sculpture, I attempted to capture not only the physical form of the tsantsa but also the cultural essence surrounding it, respecting its historical and social significance.
